What sized diode do I need for my battery charger?
My 1992 AEG ABSE10 cordless drill Universal (UC) NiCd battery charger has failed. The circuit is still OK fortunately except for the main diode, but its colour coding is now unreadable as a result. Can you advise on the correct diode I need to purchase?
Anthony, thanks for your response. The 'diode' is blue/grey with a thin black line at one end (cathode?), a thick black line at the other and a thin blue line nearer the 'cathode' end. Since this did not match anything on the chart (http://www.crystalradio.net/cal/diodeid.shtml) I had to assume
1. That the remaining colours had burnt off or
2. the coding was an AEG system.
Does any of this help further with identification?
1 are you sure its a diode, you say the colour coding is unreadable, colour coding are on resistors.
2 if its black, it may well be a 1N4001 or that type, if you don'nt know the type go to www.maplin.co.uk and have a look under diode's, it may be better if you take it with you if there is a maplin near you...! maybe someone there will help you. goodluck
