I have been working on the blower for my Amana Air Command furnace. I got it working, but really should replace the motor. The rod that connects the motor to the squirrel cage is kind of torn up. But I did have it working. We kept the fan on all the time as it seemed the start-up for the blower was kind of stressful.
After working fine for about a week, it quit. Nothing was coming on -- no power at all. I changed the fuse (by the furnace power switch on the top of the furnace) and everything started up again, but shortly after the blower started the fuse blew.
Any idea why this would happen, and what I might try?
I don't know your furnace but I suspect deep down you already know the answer to your question...
"I got it working, but really should replace the motor"
The fuse blows because too much current is being drawn and, given what you say, it seems reasonable to assume that the blower motor is the cause of this.
If the motor has brushes you could consider replacing them rather than paying for a new one.
