Engine stalls when I press switch to engage cutter deck. I have a fully charged battery and the engine is turning over healthily. I get this stall even when revs are high. Attempts to engage for about two seconds before stalling. Belts appear to be free running. Fuses are intact. This behaviour has been encountered before: after winter breaks. But a fully charged battery sorted it last year and then all worked fine for season. Clutch problem??
Hi
Mine was completely seized also. I managed to free it up by removing the mower deck, removing the main drive wheel cover on top of the deck, then the main pulley (15mm)
There are 6 bolts (13 or 15mm) to remove around the edge.
First remove the front blade pulley wheel (15mm) - be careful you don't drop the woodruff key.
I soaked the surface of the bearing with wd40 for about 20 mins and then using a wood mallet i knocked the blade in the direction of travel from under the deck. use sharp but not too powerful hits. after a bit the blade was moving freely - i then put a fair bit of hot copper grease on the bearing and left to cool.
check the others for freedom of movement.
reassemble pulley (pull slack wheel against spring to de-tension pulley) make sure pulley in grooves of all wheels.
re-assemble.
I will probably replace the bearing when i get hold of one - but this should see you through.
As the the questioner I now have the answer. The front bearing assembly on the deck is seized almost solid. Is it worth trying to dismantle and clean this or is it a complete assembly from the factory?
Just happened to me.......if yours is same as mine it has a bull bar framwork in the very front. You have run into something and this safty feature disingauges operations. LOOK UNDER FOOT PLATFORM ON LEFT OF MOWER..YOU WILL SEE A STEEL RODE HANDLE ARM TOWARDS FRONT.PULL THIS ARM TOWARDS YOU..IT IS SPRING LOADED AND IT WILL DELOAD.That should fix it.the rest of the steel rode is out of sight under mower. Good luck Alex
As these electric clutches are either on or off it would seem that there is a belt problem really....are you sure that both blades are completely free to rotate?
