Central Heating but no Hot Water on my vaillant VCW 242e combi boiler?I am having problems with my Vaillant VCW GB 242E combi boiler. The CH works fine but I have no hot water.
Usually when I turn on the hot water I would hear a click on the boiler before the burner fires up but it doesn't seem to be doing this now.
If anyone can offer suggestions it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I have recentley bled air from the 2 furthest radiators in my CH system (VCW GB 242 EH combi wall mounted boiler ) on the 2nd floor xtn of my house. When I bled the second furthest radiator no air or water came out until I released water from the filling loop to just under 1 bar the CH was off, with the heating on the pressure increases upto 2.75 bar I presume I have have topped up the system too much because water now drips from the outside pipe connected to the pressure release valve.
This did initially stop dripping & the pressure was reduced to approx 1.8 bar when I drained water from a radiator on the ground floor, but now the pressure has started to creeps upto 2.75 bar again.
I do also have some problems receiving hot water this is an intermittant issue, I can hear clicking from the boiler & on some occassions the the fault signalling lamp comes on when I want hot water so I have to press the flame failure rest button.
Any advice would be welcome apologies if I have committed any cardinals sins here.

You could have saved some money if you had used ebay, RV46 has lots of used but good condition Vaillant parts and I have bought many over a long period to keep my 19 year old 242E going.

Thanks for the reply. I managed to pick up a diverter valve for £100, got a plumber to come round to see if he would replce it, he said that he didn't want to attempt it as he mainly worked on worcester's!??
Being a bit of a DIY'er I thought I would have a go myself. It took me 1.5 hours, which I thought wasn't bad considering it was my first attempt.
Here's what I did in case anyone else is thinking of doing this, by the way the model is VUW 242E.
1. Removed Door (undo screw underneath hinge)
2. Removed Side panels
3. Turned off Boiler and disconnected from Power Supply.
4. Turned off Water mains
5. Turned off 2 isolaters on 2 pipes at back of boiler (1 left 1 right) Leave the middle pipe (gas).
6. Released pressure in system using pressure release value bottom right towards the back. It has White knob on it.
7. Lowered Control panel down and covered with polythene to prevent water spilling onto it (Which you will get). I also removed the temp gauge from control panel and pushed to the side for ease of access.
8. Removed Pump (3 Screws) Take this off slowly as quite alot of water will come out, I used a large sandwich box to catch the water. Also make sure you have a couple of towels also to mop up.
9. Remove metal plate on DV 1 small screw on DV and 2 at top of plate towards the back. Slide up and remove.
10. Removed 2 circlips and pipes on left hand side of DV, again use catch tray to catch water.
11. Undo top nut on DV until separated.
12. Undo top nut on top right of heat exchanger (sardine can type thing) which connects to the bottom of the DV. Slowly push the DV away from pipes until separated and catch excess water.
13. Remove plastic circlip from bottom right of the DV.
14. This bit can be tricky, you should still have 2 pipes inside the DV (1 top left and 1 bottom right) you have already removed the circlips (1 metal 1 plastic) move the DV backwards and to the side to release the pipes from the DV. The DV should now be free and can be removed.
15. Refitting is the reversal of the above, make sure you use new fibre washers that come with the replacement DV and also check the rubber O rings are in good condition on the pipes and pump before refitting. I cleaned and regreased the orignal O rings as they looked OK. Re pressurise the system (between 1.2 - 2 bar) slowly and check for leaks.
Sorry if I have named something incorrectly but I am an IT engineer and not a boiler engineer. Good luck and I hope this helps someone.
Regards
Nick

I have the same problem on a worcester 28cdi and it is the diverter valve which allows primary (heating) water to flow upon demand. This valve retails at £100 roughly but there is a diverter valve switch assembly which is the clicking noise you should hear, try this first, retail £10 hope this is of some help
