We had same problem after two extended mains power cuts. The backup battery in the Optima XM control panel failed.

We tried to enter the pre-programmed code but this would not switch outside alarm and strobe light off I.e. seperate battery and circuit once triggered.

We switched mains off and removed front panel and replaced battery. The unit despite having a non volatile memory had lost the pre-programmed code and went back to factory re-set.

Entering the factory code 01234 and reset button stopped the alarm and the unit went into day mode.

Have checked and battery is at least 7 years old probably more like 8 years old.

Yuasa 12 volt lead acid batterys have 5 year life span so should be replaced at least every 5 years.

Operation after this time when mains power fails may result in the same problem I.e. Control Panel will not respond to codes etc.

Why does almost every answer here assume that control panels have re-set themselves to factory settings.

In general that does not happen, why, you ask?

The vast majority are fitted with NVMs (Non-Volatile Memory), the programming is retained when panel looses all power, mains & battery.

They DO NOT require re-setting if power is lost as the programming has NOT been lost, just like the Optima XM mentioned here.

Sounds like the panel has lost power and internal battery is u/s and panel has reset to factory settings? By removing the lid you have activated the tamper circuit. On replacing the lid putting the code in should be enough to silence it. Try some default factory codes like 0123, 1234, 7890 etc. Problems continue post on here again and I will see what I can come up with.
