how do I switch off the security alarm bell when there is a power cut?
I have a Gardtec 800 security alarm. This morning (at 5am!) there was a power cut in the whole of our street which triggered the outside alarm bell. Thankfully after about 15 minutes it stopped ringing (I don’t know why it stopped but I was glad it did!) My question is - how do I go about switching off the alarm bell when there is a power cut?
I would suggest that the backup battery in your control panel needs replacing.
Activating because of a power cut should not happen, that is what the panel battery is there for, it's sounding because no voltage is being sent from the control panel to your sounder so it goes off on its own battery, stopping because of a built-in timer.
You will have to open the alarm box and disconnect the back-up battery, don't worry about it,it has been set to switch off after 15 mins this is normal and welcome,by law (uk) it has to turn off after 20mins anyway or it becomes a public nuisance, you could of course get out of bed and switch it off, have you tried that.
