A recent fault has developed with my VHS recorder. It will receive code for recording by Video Plus, showing correct programme details on the OSD, but fails to record after putting recorder into timer recorder standby mode.
1) Most likely is the take-up loading gear is damaged causing intermittent or partial loading. The fault will occur in either, playback, manual or timed recording. Customers seem to notice it more on timed recordings. Confirm this by switching from stop to play several times as the fault can be very intermittent.
Otherwise, more obvious stuff:
2) Check the time of the normal clock, including month and year. Normally, it will auto clock set but you may find auto is off.
2) The video + programme allocation list may be mixed up. When you enter the video plus number, especially take note of the number under the first column which is the channel number. The channel allocation can easily become mixed up.
3) Make sure the erase protection tab is not missing from the rear of the cassette.
4) If you are recording off Sky or External Digital Receiver, check Scart Leads are pushed in securely at each end.
You can check the timer list by pressing Prog/Check.
