One for the mechanics male or female?

Timing Chain/Cam belt.
Why, with so much technology in vehicle manufacture they build engines that literally trash themselves when the cam belt breaks. When an engine can be saved if the edge of the piston is concaved to prevent valve/piston damage.
Its just cost my daughter £4000 on a 7 seat Kia

Thanks for reading and responding.

Quoting Male or Female is a sign of equality we had boiler problem with NEW boiler after one year then male engineers hadn’t a clue so changed this and that almost rebuilding. Then British Gas got Potterton down a female engineer .....sighs...more sighs BG engineers. She pin pointed the problem with in 30 second of the noise the boiler produce when it fired up.......Its the heat exchanger she said. Took it out shook is said it got manufacturing product deposits still in it its not been cleaned properly. She put new on in the following day and that was six years ago no problem since. So played both sides of not being a chauvinist card.
The garage she bought the car from CHANGED the cam belt as a condition of purchase and stamped it in the service book and she has a receipt. Now I’ve been told the common thing to do with bolts that need torque settings need to be replaced not reuse bolts and washers. We’ll assume this was done but I believe that the mechanic set the torque wrench to high and fractured the bolt without any indication of a problem at the time. Over the 18 months the bolt got to a point where the day broke down the AA said the bolt heads sheared off on the tensioner bracket and caused belt to come of its not broken. We are in the process of claiming from the original garage after all reports are in. So I get the point of not servicing but in this case has nothing to do with it.
As for Piston question which what this was about. I had a car with pistons which were concaved the side nearest the valves so if the chain broke I was told it didn’t damage the engine. Yes it did compromise compression as my bicycle went faster. Probably so slow it didn’t sell well so scrapped the idea for good compression, as all other cars I had and worked on were either flat top or slightly concaved and did go faster than my bike.
My point! Man travelled to the moon several trips then found the yellow band brigade were on Mars looking for probes to book for illegal parking, so the chance was then taken to land the appolo lunar module to announcement ‘Nasa, the Eagle has landed’. Japanese built the extremely fast ‘Bullet’ train, invented a battery as thin as a human hair, Man invented economic car engines double, treble the average 20mpg some quadruple even. The jet pack. Yet cannot develop and engine that doesn’t need a cam belt or an engine that has one but when it breaks doesn’t destroy the engine. Can I be re-instated now I’ve explained what I’ve seen and that it wasn’t to do with maintenance but the arseole who tightened the bolt too much.

The broken belts/chains I have encountered is down to car owners not servicing/maintaining their motors on a regular basis and penny pinching will ultimately cost you in the end.

To qualify the sex of the person you wish to answer you is somewhat thoughtless - your age (74) is no excuse.

You're fired!

There's not much room for the valve heads when the piston is at the top of its stroke - any indentation to compensate for a dropped valve would need to be enormous and would make the achievement of a sensible compression ratio impossible.

Look at this patent for a dished piston...
www.google.com/patents/EP0105986A1?cl=en
You will notice in Fig 1 of Page 2 how small the space is between the cylinder head and piston top.

Your suggestion is made to overcome the expense that results from inadequate maintenance - and because of the requirement for compression your suggestion is impractical.

The contestant who will not be coming back next week is....
