I bought a scunci steamer on Craigslist and after getting home, found it would not put out steam. I immediately got online to find out how to fix it. After reading all of these post, I tried the CLR method. Filled the steamer with CLR, turned it upside down for 3-4 hours, and shazam, I have steam! Thanks all and to anyone else, YES CLR will unfreeze the piston. Now use distilled water, so it doesn't happen again.

The suggestion to unscrew the top portion really worked for me. Well, I have unscrewed it and have put vinegar in the section where water goes, and turned it upside down with the cap on and left it overnight. Now lets see what happens in the morning.

My scunci not only did not put out any steam but when I emptied out the water, out came gel-like buds and what appeared like sand. What was that all about?

My steamer wasn't working and when I opened it up like other people mentioned, it was't my piston, but the button that hits the piston was misaligned which was why it wasn't releasing steam. I reseated the buton and button spring and it worked just fine.

I used clorox cleanup to clean under the cap, around where the bayonet tip attaches, and the tip of the bayonet...in less than a minute it was working!!!!

Is it ok for the vinegar to steam?
Not sure what is meant by the previous solutions: "soaking parts in vinegar" or "running vinegar thru it" or "power blast"

I took the scunci apart as recommended and my piston is definitely stuck. There doesn't appear to be anything you can clean. You can't really soak the piston. I filled the scunci with vinegar. Not sure what to do next.

Did anyone ever have the problem where is was not working at all. The piston was stuck. After the Vinegar, and the Power Blaster some hammering, I now have steam. The piston is still stuck. And the steam that is coming out is a tiny stream. I can not again get the piston out. How long should this whole thing take? Thanks to anyone that can help!

My guess is calcium build up. Solution-soak parts in vineger it will eat right through calcium deposits in the tubes, parts etc. basically the same thing one would do to clean a coffee maker- run vineger through it

i also have the same problem, the unit makes steam but when you press the button nothing happens. i took mine apart and noticed alot of calcium build up and discovered the piston that releases the steam was froze due to the calcium, it takes alot of patience but with some clr or other brand of calcium remover you can get it to work again. also the book says to use regular tap water, when mine is fixed i will use distilled water instead, that should eliminate the problem of calcium buildup, maybe it was a little marketing ploy to have the unit sent in for repairs for a charge

Thank you so much, Andy L. for your great advice. We did just as you said -- took it all apart, oiled the piston and cleaned off the hard water build-up. The steamer valve needed some adjustment as well and it took a couple of tries before we had it right, but for now my steamer is working and I'll take whatever I can get. When it works, it's a terrific house cleaning tool.

REMOVE TOP ASSEMBLY UNDERNEATH CAP,AND REMOVE RUBBER SEAL, THERE WILL BE TWO SCREWS YOU WILL NEED TO REMOVE, AND REMOVE TWO SCREWS IN FRONT WHERE THE NOZZLES ATTACH TO THE MACHINE, BY DOING THIS IT WILL EXPOSE THE VALVE/PISTON ASSEMBLY, CLEAN THIS AREA WITH CLR OR HARD WATER CLEANER OF SOME SORT, IT TOOK SOME TAPPING WITH A HAMMER AND A LITTLE ELBOW GREASE TO LOOSEN THE PISTON, BUT THIS SEEMED TO FIX OUR MACHINE, APPARENTLY THE CALCIUM AND SCALE BUILDUP HAD PARALYZED THE PISTON.

Our son purchased the Scunci Steamer Model ss1000 a few years back for us as a Christmas gift. We only used it two or three times over this period. We loved the way it removed stains form or carpet. Now when I went to use it on another carpet stain I also have experinced the same problem in that the water heats up, makes steam but no steam is released after pushing the button. Appears from what I read herre theatr the company is out of business. Does anyone out thier know where this could possibly be repaired at. We live in a western suburb of Chicago, IL.

Online Searches I made/found regarding Scunci:

Does any one know who makes the scunci steamer?

I have a scunci steamer and I lost my book. If anyone knows who makes the steamer maybe I can download a manual.

Write to consumer service L&N sales and marketing ,2200 Byberry Road,Hatboro,PA 19040-refer to scunci portable household cleaner model ss-1000

From an online chat I had with a QVC representative:
Thank you for waiting. I believe that you are looking for information on V22649 , the Scunci 1000 Watt Handheld Steam Cleaner with 24 Accessories. Scunci can be reached at www.scunci.com or you can contact them by phone at : 1-866-567-2537. I hope that this information is helpful.

I have not tried calling yet and I had already looked at Scunci.com and all they show are hair products - no other links.

Then I found this info:
Scunci Out of Business
by homeworkqueen ,Feb 03 '07
Pros: lots of attachment storage bag makes it easy to put away
Cons: No valid warranty. Water tank was too small.

Steamer worked great for about a week. The cleaning power really motivated me to tackle jobs that I had been putting off. I liked the you could carry it. It didn't hold much water. After a week, it quit making steam. The unit wouldn't even warm up. I tried to contact the company since it was still under warranty (or so I thought). Apparently when you purchase a product from a company who is still in business, but claims that a certain division is no long in business, all warranties are void. Luckily, I saved my receipt and was able to get a refund from the store that I bought it from. I would not purchase this brand now knowing that a warranty is not available and mine wasn't made with enough quality to last more than a week. There is no way for you to contact the company. When you call customer service, they inform you that Scunci only has hair products and the division that dealt with the steamers is out of business.

Mine has also stopped steaming. I tried the WD40 suggestion but that hasn't fixed my problem.

YOU NEED TO BUY A WD40 CAN AND SPRAY THE hoses and nossels WITH IT, THEN CLEAN THEM OUT AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE IT AGAIN
