Having worked on older Renaults with this problem a simple flush both ways with a normal garden hose both ways through the heater rad for about 20 mins, then bleed up system with fresh anti freeze will cure this problem. Many of my friends have been quoted 300 pounds plus by Renault claiming heater rad was US.With the newer scienic the fan not working on NO.4 problem is the resistor which controls the fan speeds. This is located in the middle of the dash which does require the dash out bigger job than it sounds, but can be done in about 1 and a half hours. The scienic with digital heater controls can be done in about 20 mins by removing the instruments and shoving your arm behind the dash, think its only 1 torxs 20 holding it.The part for manual heaters is 80 pounds ish its mainly labour but get the modified wiring also or u may end up doing it again in the future if u plan on keeping the vehicle.Hope i have been some help to all u renault owners.

I have the same problem, and it seems to be a similar problem I had with an old Nissan Micra, there was something which noone has mentioned which is that the nob to control the heater from cold to hot wont properly click to the hot setting, on the micra this was because the cable behind the nob led to a small device in the footwell which turned when the nob was moved to hot, but once the cable had split the device no longer turned, however, it could still be turned manually at the footwell as the device was exposed, does anyone (for a start) no what i'm talking about(?) and how this device can be turned on the renault megane manually until I get the cable fixed?

My Renault Megane had exactly the same problem.
had dashboard stripped out and found heater matrix collapsed and corroded. new one fitted. Is Wonderful now. They are fairly cheap to buy, though big job to fit. Have to strip out dashboard.

Heater matrix is goosed, thake the hoses off under the bonnet, blow them through with a pressure washer, get all the brown rusty coloured water out of there and make sure you refill with plenty of anti freeze
