toilet cistern does not flush?

My plastic toilet cistern, which I believe to be single syphonic, fills up with water ok but handle depression no longer causes a flow of flushing water. Prior to this two depressions of the handle were usually needed to get flushing water flow.
Is a Spring Bathrooms B5 British made pan fitted with an SRC green cap on the top of what looks like a syphon (a vertical twin tube; one bottom rising vertically from (and being part of) a wider plastic container that the handle action draws a plunger vertcally upwards through. The other twin tube routeing flush water down to the toilet bowl.
Any ideas please on likely cause and how to approach repair work?
Many thanks,
Henry Hall

I have a SRC syphon with a bball valve. The water level in the cistern is not up to the level for an effective flush. Please advise as to its problems and remedy. Thanks

hi john,
it sounds like the diaphragm has gone in the siphon, unfortunatly it is not repairable and the whole siphon will need to be replaced, but dont worry a new siphon will cost you between £5 - £10 and is literally a 5 minute job, just remember to turn the water off first, remove the old siphon and the new one just goes in exactly the same way that the old one came out. turn the water back on and "hey presto"

The polythene diaphragm on the bottom of the old syphon is either perished or split....its usually best to get a complete new syphon for about a tenner, but there are 2 sizes - 8" and 9" so you'll need the right one. Delchem is a popular brand - from B&Q.
