Get a NOVA ignition module & throw the points/condenser away. Takes 10 mins, about $10, and fixes ignition problems permanantly. No more pulling the flywheel cos it's all solid state!

Not sure - a 5hp what? Anyway, go for 15 thousands of an inch and you'll not be far off.
