Our Whirlpool AWZ 121 start button will not lock on?

We have this tumble dryer and the start button will get the drum rotating but will not stay switched on. As you let go of the button the machine stops. Any ideas welcomed.

We also took John's advice and bypassed the switch by joining together the two wires with white connectors. Worked a treat and saved about £200 and a load of unnecessary waste!
Thanks

Hi guys a few years down the line now from the original conversation but I am trying to bridge the on off switch, but I seem to have to bridge the two with white cons AND the green cons?this seems to work but towards the end of cycle makes a very loud buzz for a few minutes then buzzing stops and it carries on until done... Why is this? Would it still be ok as it usually does a very small buzz as the timer changes over anyway?

Instead of cutting and crimping the two brown wires together, and because I may have wanted to install a new switch if the non-use of the old switch became too frustrating, I used one of the brown wires from the rhs control panel to bypass the switch. Worked a treat.

Took John's advice and crimped together the two brown wires (from the white plugs).

End result: working dryer and a very happy wife!

This is possibly a door latch problem.
Fluff build up in the mechanism or have you broken off the plastic pin at the top of the door that operates the mechanism?

Remove top cover and pull out the two WHITE connectors with the BROWN wires from the switch on the start button.Cut off these white connectors and then crimp/solder the two brown wires together. This will give the same effect as jamming the switch in

Ours is the same. We jam it so that it is permanently 'on' , so that when you select the time on the dial it begins 'automatically' and only stops when the time comes to an end or the door is opened.
