hotpoint first edition tumble dryer?

"Be careful if you undo the two cross-head screws that hold the striking plate as there is nothing to retain the door lock and it can fall down into the depths of the machine !!"

i think this has happened to me cant screw it back on, do i have to take the front off, if so how?
