How superb is this site!!! After the despair of seeing AL01 and not having a clue what to do, I find this site which says, 'It's a
flood trip switch, tilt the machine 30 degrees, have a mop handy and let the excess water drain out and it will work' It did! fantastic.

One final question........why can't Hotpoint have a website like this?

AL01 means you have water inside the machine where it shouldn't be. If the electrical trip switch has gone, this suggests that is not a false alarm. You may be able to check this by:
Unplugging at the mains (better chance of you living to tell the tale)
Emptying the contents of the dishwasher
Pulling the dishwasher out from the wall
Getting a mop ready
Gently tipping it back but up to 30 degrees
If there is water inside, it should then run out of the machine (that is why you have the mop ready!). It may take several goes before you get it emptied.

If it is that, then check to see if there is an external cause. It can be the result of backing up from the stand pipe (drain hose too far down or a blockage in the u-bend) or the drain hose not being in the stand pipe at all, or a leak in the inlet hose or connector.

Use facial or toilet tissue to check for dampness. If the inlet hose is leaking, it may be possible to gently tighten it but it should only be hand tight. You also need to be careful not to over tighten the it and to avoid crossthreading - particularly at the machine end which is plastic. There should be a rubber washer inside the connector at each end. If you can't get a seal, you may need to replace it.

The alarm is only likely to go off if it has dried out properly. This is likely to mean overnight.

Remember, the alarm is on because leaking water means a risk of electrocution.

On my FDW80 this error code appeared after I had repaired the heater which was an al10. I was advised by Indesit that it was a leak in the drip tray. When I checked the outlet pipe clip was slightly out of place and there was a leak. The leak causes the floating switch in the drip tray to trip and causes the error. If it tripped your electrics it must of continued to leak and rise above the cut off point.
