am i too late with my philips 28pw6005?

My 28' widescreen philips does it all (or not as it seems) turns to av1 in tv mode, turns off altogether, led blinks on front, loses all use of remote/set top contols. Am I to just buy a new tv and sod it all???

I think those are the symptoms of a fairly common problem with that model, which requires replacing (or possibly reflowing the soldering) to a surface mounted IC which Philips term the 'painter IC' (IC7064), fitted on a plug in sub-board.

It is very important that exactly the correct version of the IC is used.

The components on that pcb are extremely small with the finest of soldered connections. I don't see Philips models very often but last time I had one with that fault (or similar), I sent the small signals panel to a Philips specialist with reflow equipment. I believe the final bill to the customer was around £130.
