I had the same problem with the dvd stuck in standby mode with the blue light on and discovered that the 2 capacitors were slightly bulging at the top end, 2200mf 16v and 470mf 16v.I am going to try replace them, i am told you need to make sure that the capacitors are the right way round, ie positive and negative connected the right way.Its worth a try as the cost is £1.10 for the 2 capacitors.

There are 2 electrolytic capacitors close to the chunky heat sink of the STPS745FP schottky diode - centre left of the 12PW14-4C power supply board viewed from the front. One is 2200 mF, 16v and the other is 470mF, 16v. These are very close to the heat sink which runs quite hot. Heat shortens the life of electrolytic capacitors dramatically. You may find that the ends of both capacitors are bulgeing and the vent may have blown. In my case the unit appeared to be stuck in standby since the blue front panel led was lit. However the unit would no longer feed through a signal from AV2 input scart to the AV1 output scart which it will do in normal standby. Voltage checks inside the unit found that while the 12volt line was normal, both the 5volt and 3.3volt lines were way down. Replacement of the two electrolytics restored normal operation. Look for good quality replacements - preferably rated for 105C and with a high ripple current rating and recommended for SMPS power supplies.

It seems to be a common fault with this model. I have had the same problem and powering off and on was the only way to get it to work. However, it is now stuck permanently in standby mode (Blue light on). No evidence of any burnt-out components though. Looks like I'll have to ditch it.

Mine did the same thing, switch off the mains for 30 secs then turn back on and it was fine, however a couple of months later the PSU board blew, frying the fuse, blowing 1 capacitor and cracking a chip..........now I have to find one from somewhere to fix it!
