How can I adjust the door of my Neff oven to make it close more tightly ?

Forgot to say my Neff is a B1461. I saw Jules said nuts dont work with that model...you can fit nuts onto hinge but it made no difference to gap, so he was right.

I did as RDave described, 4mm metal nut on hinge then 2nd layer of glass and holder on top. It was fiddly but doable. Sadly the gap same as ever. This was my 2nd attempt after buying new hinges from Neff (£48 for the pair) which also made no difference. Took ages too. Am stuck with the gap and having to lean on the door to keep it shut!! Worth a try and I certainly know the anatomy of the doors very well. Magnets sound very dodgy. There are lots of poisonous metals in them ..not good idea to heat them. Toxic fumes.

B1420WOGB/01 door with the same issue, now sorted due to 3 washers - nice tip!
Also, dismantling the door showed me why the handle was loose and wouldn't tighten using outer screws - the handle screws go into a block which is separately screwed into the door frame :-) Tightened the inner screws and handle now nice and snug

Purchase from Homebase 6 magnets 4 mm thick by 20 mm wide .Using good quality 2 mm thick double sided tape stick the magnets onto top of oven in line with the door closing area eg above the seal job done I done this to my oven 2years ago still going strong saved a fortune on electricity.

Hi - thanks for all the advice, but before I start taking the door apart, does anyone know if the washer trick will work with a U1452 oven (the larger/lower one of the double oven installation) ? Thanks for any help/advidce

Had a door closing problem for a year which I couldn't correct, just tried the 3 washer trick and now perfect. You need to lay the oven on its back or side and remove the bottom screws first to prevent bending the brackets.

I notice some people are using magnets on here to secure oven doors, Check out on google before doing this regarding heat and magnets, especially powerful rare earth magnets (which I guess these are)............ Magnets of this nature CAN explode when heated to a certain temperature.........Maplin may sell them,
but for oven use ? ? ?........... I don't think so................. Check out first....be sure be safe..................

The washers fix worked perfectly on my B1421. Three washers each side gave an adjustment of 4mm. This was the easiest and most effective bit of diy I have done. Thanks

Just done the washer trick on my U1461N0GB/01 - works a treat, although the limited depth of door frame means that, if the bearings (where the door mounts) give any more, I won't be able to add washers beyond the one fat+one thin washer I've used on each hinge. Thanks to whomever first posted the washer idea!

My Neff oven door was not closing properly,had to prop a chair against it to stop losing the heat,read most of the comments above and tried the washer solution,but problem was still there.I then tried an idea that came to me and it worked saving the cost of new hinges and not interfering with my sport on TV.What i now do when i need to use the oven is get my wife to hold it closed untill my meal is ready,that way i can enjoy my sport, the wife does not interupt me.

washers worked for me BUT when I refitted the door the first time it seemed to locate properly but shut was worse than ever. Undid clip that releases hinges and giggled around a bit and tried again - perfect. Wondering now if all it needed was the giggling and perhaps no washers?

I just did the washer trick and it seems to work perfectly.

The door now closes nice and tight without me being able to hear the fan (unlike before). I used 3 washers per hinge, but I'm wondering if I could have gotten away with less.

Oven is a Neff B1561, about 20 years old.

While the door was apart, I also gave the door glass a good clean inside and out. It looks as good as new!

The magnets work - I first saw this a couple of years ago and tried the washers which worked for a few months but ended up having to buy a new hinge eventually, and then again a year later - the latest hinge has failed again so thought I'd try the HDD magnets and they work brilliantly. Haven't needed to glue them or anything.

I took apart an old hard disk (it has weeny Torx screws, some hidden by stickers) and found the two magnets because my screwdriver stuck to them.
Easy enough to remove and stick neatly on the oven, between the gasket and the edge.
Now to see how heatproof my double-sided tape is ;)

Ha.....just found this after taking door apart.....nipped out to the garage to find some washers and bingo....!!!

Wished I'd looked here ages ago....3 washers each side as described and its almost perfect.....agree with Patrick H......slightly longer screws and another washer might just make it 100% but not complaining

A1 solution to what seemed an expensive problem, I found it easier removing the door and taking the door apart, this allowed me to repair/replace the rubber seals as well which had started to come away from the door at the top.

I found 2 strong magnets about 10mm diameter at Maplin, and stuck one at each top corner of the oven (not the door) -- bingo! Works totally.
Cost about £9 for the two.
Previously, I'd tried both the insertion of washers below the springs, and then -- when desparate -- actually removed and bent the oven spring frames straight; they had been curved.
Both those things helped, but not enough. Then I read about the magnets, and was amazed how easy it is to buy such things.

I used the washer/nut solution, having failed with magnets on NEFF model U1410W0GB bought in 1998.
Itz a built-in, double-oven.
Remove the 2 top screws fom inside oven door, but make sure you keep hold of the GLASS door front, before removing both screws !! Door front then just lifts off !
This exposes the left/right hinge assemblies. Next undo screw securing the top of one hinge, located half way down door on the inside. Now the fiddly bit !
Squeeze a 4mm nut in behind the top hole in hinge, then look down thru hole from the other side to check the nut is in place. If not push small screwdriver shaft down hole & wiggle into position for screw to locate. Next insert screw back in to tighten. This needs quite a bit of down pressure to make screw bite ! Do not finally tighten until you have done the other side. Then tighten up and all should be well ? It was perfect for me & I was flabber-gasted at such a brilliant solution. Only a month ago the fan packed in & even that was easy to fit. It cost under £40 from an Amazon partner. So NEFFs can take DIY repairs !

Just tried the three washers solution and it works! Thank you. Some curious psychology at work though. Every correspondent on every site focuses on the hinges and the way they're fixed, but on close examination the problem actually lies with the inside door frame at the point where the two bottom hinge screws fit. The metal here is so flimsy that opening the door too quickly, causing some bounce actually distorts it. Neff should have fitted a reinforcing plate here.

Yeah I agree with sadpander UK, I've got the same problem. The guys below, for whom washers work, have clearly got a different model. My U1661 has hinges that I can just get 1 washer under before it won't allow the glass front to sit flush on the metal backplate. 1 washer has helped a bit but I'll have to try the hard drive magnet fix too!

Digitalmaster is the man!!! The magnet has worked better than anything else I have tried and it was free. Computer shops do throw old hard drives away so it's worth a visit for a free cooker repair. Excellent!!

I tried to pack washers underneath the top screw of the hinge assembly but this pushed the door frame away the front glass panel. The play on the bottom door is about 2mm, the top door is perfect. Could the hinge brackets in the housing be adjusted?

I have the same problem, have tried the washer solution but this has not made any noticeable difference. Obviously reluctant to spend the money on new hinges especially as I suspect that the housing for the hinges may be a contributory factor. Any other ideas? Otherwise do you have a spare head magnet 'digitalmaster'???

A really off the wall solution which involves no removal of any parts or doors.

Being in the computer business helped...remove the head magnet from an old hard disk drive and place it at the top of the cooker frame, the magnet is thin enough to prevent the door sticking to it but is strong enough to keep the door closed tight against it's seal.

Told you it was off the wall..!!

Thank you so much Micky T! You saved me between £30-£40 as I was about to order new hinges and sockets! It took me a while to work out that the hooks which secure the oven door to the oven have a clip that you have to raise before you can remove the oven door. (I found this out by watching a free video at http://www.apart4u.co.uk/acatalog/info_9.html). With the door out it was so much easier to put the washers in (I actually used a nut). I also found it was a good idea to loosen the bottom screw as the hinge then left more room to insert the washers beneath the middle screw.

The washer tip is brilliant!!

Even with my logical mind I couldn't work out how it could fix it but .... three washers each side and as described .... it's better than new !!!!!

Obvious when you've done it once but just a tip ... you only need to undo the top two screws and the two on the underside of the door .... the two middle ones and the two beside the hinges hold the internal hinge assembly in place ...

Got a 98% result. 5 washers each side would have made it 100% but the screw is not long enough. If the job needs doing again, I'll go out and buy some longer screws. My Neff oven is model B1561

I had the same problem, I removed the outer door skin by unscrewing the two top screws on the inside and the bottom two on the outside at the bottom underneath, this then exposes the hinges, I removed the top screw from the hinge and packed it out with washers (3 one side and 4 the other) and replaced the screw, put it all back together and its better than new....
