it has 2 leads attached a USB one and a thinner one you have to plug them both in the USB one in a USB socket and the other one in the mic socket hope this helped :D
i have the same problem as jazz mcneil!!! my mic and zoom wont work---AND i have tried filming myself and playing it back at FULL VOLUME... i cant hear ANYTHING!!!!!!!
If you are using the cam's built in mic make sure to chose 'USB cam' in the devices menu. Although you will not hear your voice being amplified through the speakers but the mic may be working. Try capturing a video file with speech and then play it back to see if your hear the audio. Have you tried using the cam on skype or yahoo?
If you already have a separate microphone you can set up the cam to work with that by selecting your sound card under the devices menu and make sure 'microphone' is selected in the recording properties on windows volume control panel (double click loud speaker icon beside clock in lower right of windows, click options/properties/select recording/ok/select microphone)
