Radio Frequency thermostat not switching boiler on?
My hot water supply is fine from my comi boiler but often my radiators are cold when thermostat is calling for heat. I have checked the timer which set on, I have a Salus RT300RF room thermostat what can I do to get my heating on?
Have you carried out preliminary checks? (You can take question 2 first.)
A Radio Frequency thermostat has two units - transmitter and receiver.
The transmitter (unit in the room) will have no wires - it is powered by batteries.
1. Check/replace the batteries in the transmitter.
2. Is the receiver switched on? (That purposeless switch in the airing cupboard.)
3. Unscrew the transmitter from the wall and take it to the receiver - other unit (which is wired in). Make sure the transmitter is cold when it is near the receiver - on something frozen and not held in a warm hand. Allow 10 minutes for the transmitter to talk to the receiver.
If these checks fail, either the radio frequency thermostat needs replacing, or (and more likely) the problem is elsewhere. Try the programmer, these can be more difficult to set than a "video recorder".
(Finding the two units of the radio transmitter can be a problem. You probably know where the transmitter is - in the sitting room, on the stairs, almost anywhere. The receiver may more difficult to recognise. It could be next to the boiler, in the airing cupboard, near the pump or anywhere where it is easy to run wires to the central heating. Typically it will be a white box with only a couple of wires running to it. Maybe the name on the box (e.g. Sunvic) will the same as on the transmitter.)
