I have a Nikon Coolpix 3200. It was working fine and then I changed the SD card to a larger 1GB size. When I turned on the camera all I got was System Error on the screen. Can anyone advise how to repair this problem? Is there a reset button/proceedure?
Older SD cards can go into new HD cameras, but the speed with which you can take a series of pictures is MUCH slower. (you have to wait for the px to load onto the sd card before you can take the next px and the speed with which this occurs is much faster with a high end (class 6) hdsc cardthan the older SD cards. I was hoping I could speed up the Nikon Coolpix 3200 by putting the higher speed card in it, but I encountered the same format error. Oh well.
The Nikon Coolpix 3200 only accepts standard SD cards, which under the SD specification ranged to 1GB. 2GB cards were iffy; they were made outside the SD standard specification. The larger cards on the market are "SDHC" cards. Although they physically look like SD cards, they are electronically different in how they communicate data. Unfortunately, your Coolpix (like mine) does not speak this newer "language".
To answer your question, SDHC cards can go into SDHC equipment, but SDHC cards cannot go into older SD equipment like your Nikon Coolpix 3200. However, newer SDHC equipment do accept the older SD cards.
