Rover 214i - coolant problems?Hi, never used this site so sorry if this comes out wrong. Please take into account I know NOTHING about cars. I have a Rover 214i (1999) and I keep having to top up my engine coolant - It runs out really quickly! I have checked for leaks when the car is running and I cannot see any and the radiator seems fine too. What could it be??? How do I test if its the 'Head Gasket' and where is the Head Gasket located. PLEASE HELP!!!!

take off oill filler cap,and inspect for a white creamy substance around opening as this is a sign of head gasket failure,i.e,water in your oil.check also for white exhaust smoke, however you may get this anyway on a cold winters day. has a new gasket been fitted before,if yes,ask if the head was skimmed. when a modern car overheats, because the engine is made from lighter and more heat conductive metal,i.e. aluminium,as oppossed to heavier cast iron years ago, the lighter material warps a lot more when heated.
