Can confirm that dropping the concave thermostat works, dead easy to do, just saved my daughter some money. Sometimes you win!

Was about to scrap my hotpoint TDC30 drier as it wouldnt heat but just did exactly what you all said about chucking thermostat with green spot and concave shiny metal plate and its working fabulously again Has happened 4 times and on previous occasions paid a professional who charged me £70 so was fed up. Another girl success ! Nb my mental image of thermostat was something big but thermostats are little black circular things abut 1 cm across just above coiled heating elements Need to be unscrewed to lift out and then just tug see through wire holders off each side before throwing on floor . Remember what goes where eg photo on mobile and put it all back as it was Then turn machine on and heh presto Domestic goddess is back Good luck

Did as above, removed fan / heating element cover about 10 self tapping screws. Then release the heating element cover, two self tapping screws on fan cover, there are two thermostats with wires attached, one has a white spot with a tiny hole in the centre. get a cocktail stick poke it through the hole. You should hear a pronounced "CLICK" bung it all back together (reverse of dis-assembly) and try it out. It worked for me.
DON'T FORGET TO SWITCH OFF AT MAINS FIRST AND UNPLUG!

Thanks for this advice, was sceptical about throwing the thermostat on the floor so I just gently tapped it a few times and hey presto the tumble drier works again.

Would just like to say thanks to the people who saved me a small fortune on repairs. I fixed my dryer by hitting the thermostat on the wall , it sonds crazy but I does work. If you were like me and don't have a clue about electrics do what I did and look for the part on internet (ebay is where I looked) this will really help. Also you don't have to take the whole macine apart just the back box!! Would also like to say this is a fab website!

yes the pin hole works but in my attempts to fix i see that the dryer has a built up of dust internally. anyone know how to get the covers off. I have had to give up in the meantime.

Worked for me too...one concern however, the thermostat obviously 'switched' for a reason. Are we compromising safety by cheating the stat back into operation?

Mine also had the little hole and a quick push with a pin and 'click' hey presto. Thanks to all the really clever people who provide us with these answers so readily.

My god thank you!! We got this tumble dryer from a friend of the family when we moved into a new house, but found it didn't heat up. Tried the solution below (throwing the concave thermostat against the floor) and it worked first time! Brilliant!!

Brilliant solution - see below!! Take off the concave one and throw it hard against the wall until it becomes convex, then stick it back in!!!!

Likewise my dryer (Creda TCR2) would rotate but not heat.
I removed plug from the mains and then as suggested stripped down the back to the thermostats and found one to be convexed and one to be concaved.
Interestingly, the concaved one had a pin-hole in the back, not a coloured dot - I inserted a pin and there was a definate 'click' and the front then became cancaved.
Put together again and for now all is well - hope this helps!

I had the same problem with my Creda TCR14. Tried the answer of removing the thermostat with the coloured dot (which had a concave metal plate) and throwing it on the floor several times and after the 4th time the plate was convex. Put it back in the dryer and lo and behold it had cured the problem and not cost a penny! whover discovered this is a genius and many thanks to the person who posted the answer.

this happened to mine and i refused to call someone out to it so i searched the web and an electrician gave me this advice and it worked!!!!
unplug and take the back off..there are 2 thermostats..little round silver things...one of them has a painted dot on it...it should be convex but if its concave then your thermostat has gone...take it off and throw it hard at the wall until it pops out again...then put it back and put the back on....turn on the dryer and let it run for one minute. if you now have heat then its ob fixed...if not then order a new set of thermostats...cheapest are on ebay and you need to replace both thermostats on a creda at the same time. this should fix it. anyway the throwing at the wall thing worked for me...and im a girl!!!! ps DO NOT BUY A CREDA AGAIN THEY ARE RUBBISH

if drum is starts turning after you turn timer [programer]
knob to whatever time you want it totake it is
probally your timer on your dryer, some dryers have separate
heater controls if yours has these check them if ok
then it is your timer
if drum is not turning door switch faulty

Perhaps the timer is faulty, and is making the machine think that its on the cool down period? Can't think of much else just now, apart from the overheat sensors at the back of the drum - but these rarely give trouble. Sounds like you've spent enough dosh on it......
