Can anybody HELP?? I have a Potterton Prima B boiler and until recently an IMI shower ~ the hot to the shower would soon go cool, then by moving the control valve towards cold and then back to hot the supply would return again for a short time! Not very satisfactory. I decided to redo the bathroom and replaced the 15mm elbows in the pipe runs with bends in an attempt to get a better flow ~ When flushing the pipework through the water was really hot. I installed an Alterna Amala shower ~ the water supply is really good, but the same old problem is back ~ the hot water supply soon runs out and again it's never really hot! Once again, move the control to cold and then back to hot, and the hot is restored for a short time!
There is no debris in the pipes as I said I thoroughly flushed them through. The hot water tank is on the same floor as the shower ~ the hot supply to the wash basin is really hot. Anybody any ideas?
sounds like your cold water to your house is a direct type.the tank in your loft is for your hot water so if your shower is low pressure type it works of youre hot water cylinder and your cold supply tank.
Hi, Hi spec plumbing ~ well I have a big plastic tank in the loft and a smaller one along side it as the header tank for the central heating, however I think this larger plastic tank is for the supply to the hot water cystern. I have always believed this tank was for the upstairs cold water supply, but when I turn the mains off by the stop cock in the garage the cold water supply to the taps ceases so I now think obviously that the cold water supply is directly from the mains!! Do the pressures in the hot/cold supply to the mixer need to be equalised to some degree?
Thanks for the suggestion Iain, tried it ~ still the same.
We never use the emersion heater in the tank only the hot water supplied by the boiler. I even tried turning down the boiler stat ~ again no joy!! any other suggestions?
