Easy chords?

Which group of chords would recommended for a novice to learn so that they can strum a few pop tunes?

My son has bought a guitar and wants to learn.

Click here if you can answer this question

if the player is a complete novice then i would suggest you steer clear of barre chords, start with E Em A Am G C D open chords then add the F (barre chords) and B

lots online and a music shop will have lots of beginners books to work through, dont rush it go too advanced too early and you will pick up bad habits that will be difficult to get out of as he/she becomes more competant.

the best way to learn is 3 chords , there are a lot of books that relate to this, no more or he will get bored. the first song i learnt was blowing in the wind, a good on is michael jacksons billie jean or beat it, very easy to play, chasing cars by snow patrol is easy too, if you want him to be a bit more cultred then let it be by the beatles, i am in a band , if you need chords , scripts or advice , do not hesitate to contact me on youtube if he sticks with it he will be glad when he is at a party playing, and all the girls are looking at him ( that's why i learned ) lol

Hi Sandy

C Am F G

These chords played at different speeds can get you through many songs. If will seem awfully difficult at first, especially changing from one chord to another but he will get there

Playing open chords (especially on an acoustic) on a guitar sometimes sounds naff when playing pop songs . After playing for many years in a band, bar chords are the best bet, as it uses the same finger configuration which you just slide up and down the neck. They are based on the open E and A chords.
