HELP! Singer Concerto 9217 bobbin won't wind.?

Please help me if you can! I have a Singer Concerto 9217 sewing machine and it works in every other way but the bobbin won't wind. I'm using the correct self-winding bobbin case and have followed all of the instructions in the manual carefully but the top thread just keeps on getting jammed and won't wind at all. If I wind the bobbin by hand (takes ages!) I can sew normally and the machine works fine. It's so frustrating! I'd be so grateful of any help.

Heres the trick-
The little metal center on the bobbin needs to be pressing down to wind. DO NOT close the slide plate all the way. Close it ALMOST all the way so that the edge presses the middle of the bobbin down. You will hear a little click when it's in the right spot. After your bobbin is wound, close the slide plate all the way. For some reason this isn't clear in the manual and I figured it out on my own.

Hello Maria,
If you have a self winding bobbin it may be something as simple as a dodgy bobbin, if you have tried another bobbin and the winder is rising when you push the button over then you will need to check the gears under the bobbin case area, you have not said how long you have had the machine, are you threading the machine as normal when you wind the bobbin and are you making sure the presser foot is up ? e-mail me if you have a problem.
