XP PC not starting up correctly - Advice please.?I have recently set up broadband for a friend on her HP desktop.
All worked fine, until I was loading some printer software, during this install the power was turned off in the house.
When the power was switched back on, (straight away), the PC would not move past the Wiundows XP screen, power makes it wayto the mouse, but does not appear to make its wayto the keyboard, (no lights come on). I restarted it half dozen times with the same result.
I took the PC home with me, and tried a day or so later. It worked. It self removed the partial printer driver install, and I then shut it down correctly, I started and shut it down another half dozen times with no issues.
I then dropped it back at my friends only to expierience the same issues I did when the power went off. ie XP windows screen, that does not make it to desktop.
I wondered is there a way to enter setup and then start up the desktop in its simpliest form in the hope that when I shut it down again, it will restart correctly. I believe that the short trip in my car has given it enough vibration to make it start up temperamentally.
Thanks G

During power up press the F8 key repeatedly and you will get a choice of options. Select "last known good boot" and this should bring it back on.
