Peccavi, i got the laptop from my littlewoods catalogue, shall i send it back there or to the makers of the laptop!
and if its not hackers doing this, why wont it let her log in when she puts her passward in, and switch off after three attemps? can you tell me if there is anything else that will do that, so we can try to fix it.
thank you.
If the machine is powering itself off after three attempts to enter a password then it will be a security feature against theft built into the software - examine the original paperwork - call the help and advice line they give you - have all the paperwork ready and the machine powered up.
Do not send the machine back anywhere (unless they ask you to) - it appears to be working fine. The seller "owns" the warranty but someone like Littlewoods will have probably sub-contracted it out to a specialist computer support company. Similarly if there was a real hardware fault the paperwork will show where to send it.
My guess is that your granddaughter is either not reading the start up paperwork correctly - or has forgotten her password - or is trying to type it in the wrong "case" (upper case instead of lower case for instance) - or that someone who has had access to the machine has changed the password without her knowledge. There's a very, very remote possibility that the machine has previously been returned by another owner (who set up a password) and then sold on to you "as new" but I very much doubt it. Also she might just be confusing for instance a Zero (0) with the letter O. It would be good for you to know who set the password in the first palce - i.e. who actually created the password.
