Hoover Nextra HNL 842 - big problems?

Our 13 month old washing machine is ill. When I set the cycle for 44 min cycle the light comes on displaying that the wash will be taking longer than 60 mins, when I put it on a longer wash it is showing the 15min light. Sometimes I can reset it, often I can't. So the cycle I select on the dial doesn't ever seem to match what the machine actually decides to do. It's driving me mad I would be grateful of any advice or information.

Ours is 2years and 8months old. We had the 'motherboard replaced while still under warrenty, and another £40 repair a little later. On Saturday it first refused to spin, then refused to do anything.Today we were told by the engineer that it isn't worth repairing as both the 'motherboard and pump have gone and he cannot guarentee the repairs would last above 6 months because of internal leaks. Today we will need to buy a new machine. I will be going back to Hotpoint.

Mine has problems too - won't spin and drain. "A" programme takes Hours - is that right? Filter clear. Dial doesnt move to show where on programme you are. hate this machine - want my Zanussi back!

same again. my machine has been 'iffy' since it went out of warranty. white washing comes out black, re-spun washing wetter than when it went in and timer problems too. Ive done everything it says in the book. wish i'd gone with gut instinct in the beginning and not bought it! cant afford another yet so will have to put up with it. Will never buy hoover again. I loved my old zanuzzi it lasted forever.

I had this problem a couple of times when it was in warranty, and the engineer simply swopped out the circuit-board or motherboard or whatever it is that controls everything. Once the symptoms were described he wasted no time so obviously this is a common problem. Fine to have done as a freebie but now (out of warranty) I've started seeing 15minute times for a 90-degree cycle I'm in the same boat as everyone else.

We have the same problems, our machine is just 18 months old, in trying to set the program it's just hit and miss if you get the right one, it just never does what you set it on, Just going to give up on it and buy a new machine. (But not a Hoover)

I have taken to switching the machine off at the mains alot more. Which seems to reset it sometimes, but I do agree the delayed start feature is rendered slightly useless becasue you never know what it's going to do. I have contacted Hoover who of course suggest I need a visit from an engineer.

This was on fixya, by lilvix.
Have you tried cleaning the filter at the bottom. remove the front plateat the bottom and there is a small round plate at the left. this has a screw in it. when you have removed this you give it a twist. a bucketload of water and gunk will come out.
Use the plateat as a tray to catch the water as the bung is quite low. (I had about 10 trays full before it stopped)

Same here.
Same age machine. When I select various programmes it goes to the 15min indicator straight away. It is so annoying when you put it on the delayed start only to come back to find out the washing hasn't been done as it's gone onto the 15min indicator!
Is this why they only give a 12 month warranty??
