If I remember correctly the 2004s is a onestep button hole machine, in your accessories should be a big bulky white plastic foot, this is adjustable in size at one end pull this open place your button in the gap and close till the button is held secure in the gap, this sets the size between the two sticking out bits on one side of this foot, take off the current foot from your machine and replace it with this one putting the button at the rear, and the sticking out bits on the left.
then look at top your needle, to the left a little and back a bit there will be a lever (behind the needle threader if there is one on this model) pull this straight down, it should sit between the two sticking out bits on the foot.
Now look at your stitch selector for the buttonhole symbol and set to this, set stitch length dial about 0.5 agian there is likely to be the buttonhole symbol, and width control on its widest if there is one.
Place a piece of scrap fabric under the foot and lower it put your foot on the pedal and watch it complete the whole buttonhole. once complete raise the foot and move to another area of fabric and lower foot, turn your selection dial off the buttonhole symbol usually to straight stitch then put it back onto button hole symbol, this resets the buttonhole facility to the start of the process and is important. then you and do another one. good luck
