Small metal piece on Kenmore PowerMate/strange noise?
I recently removed a small silver piece of metal on my vacuum, trying to find out what was causing a strange noise(like a rumbling sound) which was most likely started from something like a BB pellet somehow getting sucked up into it. Now, not only do I not know whats causing the noise, but I have no clue how to put this metal piece located on/near the motor and belt. Can anyone help me out?
Try running the powermate unit with the belt off of the motor. Observe operation and listen. If it is still making the noise, we now know it's the motor. The metal piece you have found, is either a part of the motor cooling fan or debris that may have been picked up at some point. Inspect the motor assembly, paying attention to the belt side. As you spin the motor shaft by hand, you will see the motor cooling fan. It is likely that a blade or two are missing. I have seen this happen occassionally with these motors. Broken fan or not, it would be a good decision to replace the motor if it is making an unusual sound. Send me an e-mail at arctic@worldlynx.net for part information.
