My Henry Hoover had a burning smell and has stopped working.?

I was using my Henry Hoover when it started making a terrible burning smell. I switched off, left it, when back to it the next day and it seemed to work. However, it then made the same burning smell and stopped working. Can Henry Hoover be repaired or is it more cost effective to buy a new one? Henry's about 5 years old and has never had a problem before. I think the motor's burnt out but not sure what to do next. Thanks for any help!

Mine has started smelling of burning twice, and each time I've just stripped it down, noting where everything goes, removing the 4 outer screws to release the cable reel "hood", and then the three inner screws to release the motor enclosure, removed the carbon brushes from the motor (2 screws and a faston or "spade" push fit connector each), cleaned up the armature with some very fine wet and dry (turning the the impeller using a socket on the nut of the impeller - I did this with my fingers the first time and regretted it - the circular hole has a very sharp edge!), followed by a wipe over with a cloth with methylated spirits to remove any lingering carbon, I've checked that there's plently left on the brushes, replaced and reconnected them, and rebuilt it carefully making sure all the wires are routed properly and not trapped, the hardest bit is getting the cable reel guide to stay in place whilst you assemble the cable reel hood back on- result ? Runs fine, no burning smells!

motors are around £67
Henry 1200w around £85
Best way to search is enter Numatic vacuum cleaners then look down the list click on the Henry picture and view the one for £85 free delivery UK.
Well! my guess is you'lll go for the new one.
