How can I fix my VAX 1800 Model No VS-033?

I am trying to dismantle the appliance to check electrical continuity - appliance suddenly stopped working and electrical problem suspected... All the normal trouble shooting advice has been checked out.
I have removed parts giving access to the two main fixing screws holding together the two halves of the appliance but their removal does not allow separation of the two halves... there appears to be further fixing/s holding the two halves together... I have applied gentle pressure to try and ease the two halves of the housing apart, but to no avail. Is there a 'secret' screw/s or 'press clip' arrangement which is not immediately obvious and needs to be released???
Please advise... anyone! thanks

Further to earlier information supplied re Vax-03R appliance parts diagram, this is identical to the VS-033 model... the parts diagram (see page 18 www.stokesap.com.au/download/VAX_technical_Draw_LR.pdf) will help to explain the following procedure.
The (unseen) fixing screws enabling final separation of the two halves of the appliance are located beneath the rocker plate switches (cable recoil & on/off switches)... see parts diagram (part nos 7 & 62).
Now for the tricky bit... To remove these use an old thin bladed kitchen knife to ease off the rocker plate switches... there are two release clips on each of the rocker plates located below and out of sight at the hinge point between the top edges... work from the rear end of the rocker switches... it's a bit of a fiddle but with firm and careful pressure the rocker plate switches can be removed. Best of luck!

You didn't give too much detail of your model but while trying to find out how to remove the motor plastic shroud (to change the brushes) on my old Vax Powa 4000 I found this parts pdf which should help you a bit. See page 18 re model VS-03R.
