It is a 2004 Hotpoint WMA58 Washing machine. The drum has stopped rotating though filling and draining was still ok.
I disconnected power and water and got access to the motor brushes by tipping the machine on its side. I took out the brushes to have a look, on one of them the carbon rod was stuck in but sprang out with a shake. Thinking that was it I reassembled and got the machine upright.
Still no rotating drum. I tipped the machine on its side this time (to save on plumbing) and found that I hadn't reconnected one of the brush wires. I reconnected, rechecked, righted the machine and tried again.
Now I get nothing. On selecting a programme the correct LEDs light up but nothing happens after pressing start. The cycle does not even get as far as trying to lock the door. I can seen no dodgy connections, there is no smell of burning.
