how do I replace the lamp on my Panasonic NN5050B Microwave?
When the bulb went out on my Panasonic microwave I thought it would be a simple job to replace it with a standard SES bulb.
No such luck. When I removed the lamp cover I was confronted with something completely different to what I expected. The Lamp ? or what I assume to be the lamp is a metal cylinder with a hexagonal hole in it. The cap is only in light pressed metal so it not intended to insert a hex key for removal. I have no idea how I remove the lamp. it is rigidly fixed in the microwave and attempts to wiggle it. ( Forgive the technical term please ) unscrew it have all been in vain.
I have ordered a replacement lamp from a Panasonic spares agent in the hope that the base or cap will give me clue, however the person taking the order was vague as to the exact lamp I was ordering so I don't hold much joy.
The lamp fitting is 19 mm in diameter, approximately 31 mm in height with a lilac ceramic bottom section.
The recess into which the lamp is fitted shows lots of spot welds so I am assuming that I might have to go inside the cabinet to remove the Lamp ?
It also has a circle of gold coloured gauze around the base.
Does anyone have any idea about the type of lamp I am talking about, how it is removed etc.
BE VERY CAREFUL WORKING INSIDE THE CABINET OF A MICROWAVE OVEN. Especially if you are near the magnetron, (which you clearly are). There is a capacitor connected to the magnetron which is there as part of the circuit that develops the high voltage the magnetron requires. The charge stored on this capacitor is easily lethal, and can remain for a considerable time.
Microwave ovens are really not a DIY machine to repair. It is a stupid piece of design that the bulb is not user-changeable, but there you are.
Hi
I think you have been looking inside the ovens waveguide launch. The thing you are describing is the MAGNETRON antenae.
To access the lamp
1/unplug the mains lead-
2/take off the metal cover/usually about 6 or 7 seven screws holding it/these are at the back
3/ from the back pull the cover off
4/looking from the front the lamp should be accessable on the top right hand side.
4/the clips on the lamp are little spade lock terminals
a little lever on the clip must be depressed whilst you pull off the clip
