Its a 40702X92E 40" Rider. I was mowing and it all of a sudden just quit. Plenty of gas and oil was fine before I started. (I always check oil and gas before mowing) When It quit I pushed it into the garage (It was 97 out today) and tested battery 12.8, fuse was still good. I hear somethign engaging, but motor wont even budge. When I pulled the oil dipstick there was quite a bit of smoke coming out, is that normal? Do you have any ideas on why it wont start??
I suspect a faulty safety kill switch. The rider seat, the clutch, the blade disengage, the reverser. One of these switches has probably grounded out the electrical system and killed the engine. If it's an older machine the seat switch is probably a good guess. It's the smallest and most delicate, What you might try is to disconnect the single yellow wire, connected to a single black wire going into the right side of the engine. There is a connector between the two wires. Separate there, and try starting it again.
Usually an engine will not "just quit" without some warning if it is fuel related.
sometimes the turn key or ignition switch is grounded to the metal wall panel actually grab it and shake it to see if its loose if so tighten and check the terminal for corrosion ... the lester
