Problem with Panasonic DMR-ES20DEB scratching DVD's?I have recorded DVD's with my DMR-ES20DEB recorder and also played back pre-recorded DVD's. Now the message in the read-out is the disc is not reognised. No matter what I do it will not recognise the disc. On inspection of the disc's I have noticed that all of the DVD's that I have tried to play have a circular scratch on them.
When I load a new disc, the player recognises the new disc and asks to format the disc. After formatting, I try to set the recorder to record and again it says it does not recognise the disc. On inspection of the disc, there is a circular scratch on the disc.
I have taken the lid off the carrier and cannot see any obvious signs of dust or debris that might cause this. Ths laser assembly seems to be moving ok.
Can anyone help with this one

Paul, I have a DMR050 and it is doing the same. The laser is retained in the carrier by a small plastic clip which, over time, gets distorted by the heat in the laser and pops out of the holder. Was told by a local repairer that, as normal these days, that these units aren't good for extended playback or dvd recording use. Panasonic can't supply a new unit to repair, they will only offer a repaired one on an exchange basis. Around A$180 and maybe 4-6 weeks wait, maybe. Have surfed the net looking for parts but no luck yet. If you find parts the post it and I can purchase too.
